Big Red, as referred to by locals is one of the remaining canneries in Astoria. Filled with historical buildings, Astoria is the oldest founded city west of the Mississippi. Big Red was a salmon cannery that was one of a few to survive a major fire. The building was bought by an artist but a storm ripped off one side of the building and has been closed. Funds are being raised to restore the building. This icon on the waterfront stands about and hopefully will reopen one day.
