Just on the southern edge of the city of Spokane are some foothills of the Selkirk Mountain range. Most of the area is a designated conservation area and filled with trails to roam around. The area is easily accessible but one still needs to hike a little to get there. This area is know as the Rocks of Sharon or the Big Rock area because of the giant granite rocks that get out of the ground. The hill in the image is Krell Hill also known as Tower Mountain because of all the television antennas. The other part of Krell Hill that is not in the picture just to the right is Browns Mountain, which is a residential area that looks over the south hill of Spokane. To the south, the vista looks out onto the Palouse. On this evening, as the sun dropped behind Tower Mountain, the interesting cloud formations exploded in color. Most of the time I don't like to include man made things in my natural landscape images but I really think it makes the image in this case.
